The Democratic Party Should Have Called re:Write
Dear New York State Democratic Committee:
That flyer you mailed to our house? The one allegedly designed to “encourage” get-out-the-vote efforts? We have some other words to describe it: Menacing. Insulting. Alienating.
“Who you vote for is your secret,” your mailer says. “But whether or not you vote is public record… We will be reviewing voting records.”
Do you really think this was the best choice of words to get people–not just any people, but members of your own party–to the polls?
And this:
“If you do not vote this year, we will be interested to hear why not.”
We’re inclined to agree with the New York Post (and we don’t say that every day) characterization of that line as “better suited to a mob movie than a major political party.”
Next time, better call re:Write.
For the record: We voted. But we guess you already knew that.
